Ah! I wrangled quite a bit with that section, and I thought--as I did indeed mispeak earlier--that it was 'double damages for free man/child, but death if it's for women'. Since part of the point being made is that sex with someone else's wife is a special case. But honestly, it's hard for me to be sure, given we don't have the text of the excerpted law.
