Afraid afraid afraid
Time to get a handle on the fear.
I have:
two items to peer review before May 16
one Progress Review, also due May 16
exams and invigilating
Chapter One (~10K) to write.
Okay. I can do this. I have a whole month. It's not a picnic, but it's doable.
Right?

I bet Bear would let you have it. I find it immensely reassuring.

(Dragon Age. It has a lot to recommend it.)
(Also, thanks.)

The second one, I think I love less and admire more. It's really pushing the limits of the kind of story videogames have been used, until now, to tell - a story told over a much longer period of narrative time, that is doing social commentary as well as (mostly) brilliant characterisation and story. It's not wholly successful at integrating everything that it's attempting, but it does push the envelope a hell of a lot further.
Also, in both DA: Origins and DA:2, it is trivially easy to wander around with one's entire party composed of female characters for the whole game. They're not perfect on the gender front, but they are leagues upon leagues better than any other game I've seen.
(I can sing Bioware's praises on characterisation and story for hours. I'd probably better not - but the dialogue, the snarky snarky dialogue, is to die for.)
