Finding new things to fret about

Now that I've put my thesis on submission and it is someone else's problem for a while, my brain has found a new-old thing to fret about: money, and the fact I don't have any.

(Cake and beer was a grand achievement in the food shopping yesterday. Nearly didn't happen, and if I hadn't got some freelance money today the bank would be dunning me about overdrawing my overdraft.)

I don't even know if I'm eligible to apply for Jobseeker's Allowance in my present in-between state. I need to find out, because without it the lights probably don't get to stay on in April.

Sigh. Life would be so much easier with a working printer. And a light box. And a job, if my brain weren't so broken right now that thinking is hard.

Or maybe patronage.

Talking about money is crass. But good lord, it's frustrating. And anxious-making.

Is it a case of fixing the existing printer, or buying a new one?

Either? I can't figure out what's wrong with it -- well, the paper feed not working and the printer bar thingy not moving, but that doesn't help me fix it.

But it doesn't really make financial sense to spend money repairing the ancientry when for fifty quid one could purchase something that prints and scans and copies and practically makes a cup of tea to boot. It's first on my list of Things To Acquire when I do get a job. :)

Driveby from friendsfriends. I completed in 2010, so the rules might have changed, but I was eligible for JSA after I submitted (and indeed, while I was writing up). All I had to do was prove I was looking for work by telling them about my jobs.ac.uk searches and applications, and give them a letter from my department confirming that although I was still a student I did not have any hours committed to work every week that would inhibit me accepting a full time position. They gave me 13 weeks (I think) where I was allowed to apply just for academic jobs, and then I was supposed to have an interview to widen my acceptable jobs, but I came off JSA before I needed that.
