Occassional Demons

So. Today I have been head-mugged by a story that insists on representing itself as a short (I am mistrustful. I suspect it lies). This evening shall be given over to convincing it to front up and tell me what it wants: I suspect all will be clear in a few thousand words or so.

I have also made some very minor progress on Dreamdark. It continues to simmer - while the characters sulk - in the back of my head, taking up valuable space that should really be being used for my French assignment.

2000 words of literary/philosophical criticism to be done by Monday.

Other projects are starting to pop up again, too, and other characters have been jumping up and down and waving and threatening from their perches in my backbrain.

Let's see... there's the (former) assassin and (current) pilot; the hunted former war hero/war criminal (which he is depends on who you ask); the privateer; the courtesan-assassin-spy; the necromancer; yet another assassin; another war hero/criminal; a thief-spy; a disgraced nobleman who has a sword with a mind of its own; a revolutionary or two; a smuggler or three; a dead politician's daughter; a pilot or five (yes, more pilots); a politician or six; and maybe a couple of Prophesised Saviour/Destroyers thrown in for good measure.

Now, if only I could write them all without having to do the, y'know, actual work of writing, I'd be very happy indeed. *g*



Goals, 03 Jan to 03 May:

1: run a consistent seven-minute mile
2: run a consistent fifteen-minute 3km
3: increase the weights used when weight training by at least one

4: finish Dreamdark
5: finish three short stories
6: have next project planned and started

7: get (or at least seriously look for) a part-time job that actually pays money
8: succeed in not failing any exams or assignments in my college course

9: enjoy life
10: not die

Oh, sure, we got goals.

1. Rehab this foot o'mine so I can run again.
2. Go back to fencing at all
3. Buff up for the baseball season (which, if the foot doesn't continue to progress, will be on hold this summer)
4. Enjoy life
5. Not smirk at youngsters who still have exams and stuff
6. Actually get someone to really work on the addition to the house
7. Get the effing addition built
8. Procrastinate another year on the ACLAM boards
9. Read many good books.

Heh..best of luck to you too. ACLAM is the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, or my speciality. I haven't gotten boarded yet, as it's been optional. One of these days I really ought to do it, just so I can add a few extra silly letters after my name. For some reason, people seem to think they're pretty letters.

I'd suspect, if I was going to put forward an opinion, that we're living in an era of the aristocracy of education (meritocracy? educatocracy?). The more letters one has after one's name, the more standing one has in the eyes of one's peers...

But I'm not going to put forward an opinion, am I? :-)
