Books 2012: something overlooked

Books 2012: 165

165. Shannon Hale, Princess Academy. Bloomsbury, 2007. First published 2005.

So [livejournal.com profile] jennygadget told me that this was very good YA. I think it is good and interesting, but it hits few to none of my narrative kinks. So I am mostly unenthusiastic about it.

Interesting post about sword and sorcery.

Today I went to college to the library to attempt to start the ball rolling with the thesis again. Also to print out and drop off paperwork. (Argh, paperwork. Although it is paperwork for the timely acquisition of moneys, so I should not complain.) Staring at the thesis was dispiriting. But I did succeed in writing... half a paragraph.

To add icing to the cake, I went to the gym. And used the exercise bike, because apparently I have forgotten how to use the treadmill? Sigh. The scales tells me I have not gained weight, but I strongly suspect loss of muscle, particularly with regard to upper body conditioning.

Oh, well. We go onwards.

I think I still have a copy of Princess Academy somewhere. I liked the premise, and thought it was well done and all, but...it didn't really grab me much, unfortunately. Got about 3/4 through and never got around to finishing it. I've got it mentally tagged as a great book that's just--well, like you put it. Not hitting my narrative kinks.

Sometimes there are books like that. It is a sad, sad thing.
