They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet...

I'm just now wondering...

Would it be an abuse of my shiny new status as an official college newspaper book reviewer type person to ask and annoy publishing company publicity departments for advance review copies, do you think?

I've never done this type of thing before, you see. So advice would be very much welcomed.

Of course it's not an abuse, it's part of the job. Just as it is part of the publicity assistant's job to promise you every book they ever publish, and then only send you the bland bestsellers that you really, really don't want to read, let alone review...

Heh. I've never done anything like this before, so I really don't want to put my foot in it any more than I have to.

It's not like the Record actually has guidelines for its contributors. Or even hints. It's a very much make-it-up-as-you-go-along publication.

So thanks. Now I feel much better about emailing all the various publisher publicity departments. :)

Well, now I have grounds for chancing my arm. :)

Though if it weren't for the internets, I swear, the whole learning-by-doing business would be much more terrifying.

The internets rock that way.

They do.
