The trouble with starting a new (new!) story is that at some point you have to go look for things like backstory. And coherence. And plot, of course - that's always a plus. *g*
After banging my head against Dreamdark for entirely too long - it wasn't fun anymore, and if it's not fun, then why am I wasting my time doing anything with it? Life's too short - anyway, after putting Dreamdark away until I can look at it without wanting to commit gross violence with sharp implements, I've moved on. The New! The Shiny! The Fun!
It has a title - Shadows of Senissima. Mind you, I'm not sure I know what it's about, apart from what happens when politics collide with vendetta and mix it up with a rough crew of assassins, pirates, rebels, irate aristocratic maidens, shadowy-but-influential Lords (of the Night, no less!), priesty types, and disgraced noble scions. Not to mention the mages and the odd metaphysical being. And of course, we can't forget the backdrop of warring empires, sinister cities, and open sewers.
Sometimes I wonder why I seem compelled to write characters who think killing people/being in imminent danger of being killed is a normal state of affairs...
I blame it on the history, myself. Can't expect a girl to grow up without some neuroses when she's studied the many and varied ways human beings have managed to screw up their societies in the past. (And, following the trend, continue to screw up their societies. As it was in the past, is now, and forever shall be, world without end - until it does, of course.)
