I walked this route today:
Trinity College to Old Jamesons' Distillery, via Kilmainham
No wonder I came home wrecked. That is a respectable distance to walk in one's afternoon.
It's actually a surprisingly pleasant walk. Thomas St. is old Dublin, and once you get up to the Royal Hospital, there is a shocking amount of greenery.
Also, the National Museum in Collins Barracks? I've meant to get up there for ages now, and damn. That is some well thought-out museum.
