I am first to sing of Pallas Athena, city-redeemer,
The marvelously strong: with Ares warlike deeds delight her,
And the sack of cities, and the battle and the battle-cry.
She guards the army in advance and in retreat.
Be joyful, goddess, and grant me success and good fortune.
