Personally, I think far too much fantasy is of the Protag and Buddies Save The World mode. Small-scale fantasy is rare no matter the setting, IMO--and I'd love to hear if people think I'm wrong, because these are the stories I want to read, the stories where what's at stake will shake Protag's world but not necessarily matter in the larger regional picture.
