The Christmas tree is up.
I've survived the annual experience again.
Oh, well. At least locking myself away for the afternoon had a decent result: I managed to get over 2,400 words of "Dreamdark" written. If I keep pushing - and I'm not sure I'm able to, mind - I might get another 1,100 written. Making this the first day ever I met my goal.
Don't think that's going to happen, but we can try.
The next scene I want to write is one where things actually start to happen. Darric learns the prince has died and that Tamar has to go to court - but in disguise, because her life is at risk. Poor Darric, putting up with Tamar.
Then I have to go back to Elise, the prince's funeral, threaten her a bit more and then start killing people. Oh, and I have to figure out why Taras disturbs her, and what Bad Thing he's going to do to keep this plot going.
Then I have to send her out of the city, meet Taras/Tamar/Darric, let Taras betray them, kill lots of Darric's soldiers, do important character-development crap, let Elise realise that Darric is her brother/vice versa, get Darric/Elise/Tamar back to the city, get The Enemy to the city, get Elise's father arrested and executed, get Elise/Tamar/Darric arrested and under threat of execution, get Tamar/Darric to escape and Duchess Northengard to arrive, crown the false heir, kill the king, the false heir, and the Enemy, and give Tamar a qualified resolution.
Oh, and I also have to work in how Darric and Tamar are going to die and/or go mad/be executed/die young because they're magically talented.
Yeah. Where they come from, being a mage isn't a gift. More like a curse. Not pretty, precious.
Plus, I need to figure out whether this is a story that actually needs a love interest.
I don't want it to be a story with a love interest. Fie on you, happy endings.
Should probably go try get more words. ::Bangs head on keyboard:: More words, more words.
