It is what it is. My great-grandparents (the ones I know about) on my grandmother's side came to Dublin from Yorkshire and Scotland, respectively; on my grandfather's side, they came to Dublin from Mayo. So even my family history is... out of place, when you think about the easy narratives of cultural mythology.
(I don't belong here. And yet it's mine, all that history, part of me in a way I can't ever cease to acknowledge, because forgetting it diminishes it and me.)
