To Poseidon
I start to sing of Poseidon, a mighty god,
Who moves the earth and the unresting sea,
He whom the sea brought forth, who has Helikon and far-spreading Aigai for his own.
To you, Earthshaker, the gods gave a divided domain,
To be both horse-tamer and ship-saviour.
Hail earth-shaking dark-crested Poseidon!
Fortunate one, gracious in spirit, succour those who travel by sea.
