Books 2016: 135

135. Greg Rucka, Stumptown Volume Two. Oni Press.

I forgot to include this in my last round-up. Excellent graphic novel about a Portland PI and a missing guitar. I would give at least a finger off my left hand to see Rucka's Stumptown adapted for the small screen, because that would be awesome.

Tell me more about it? Or is there a column review?

Okay, so. The PI main character is Dex Parios, who is a good PI but might be a bit self-destructive. She's the main caretaker for her younger brother, who has Downs Syndrome - and is a character rather than a caricature. The voice is sarcastic noir (without the misogyny). The cast is realistically diverse and people are queer without it being remarkable.

I don't normally read and enjoy graphic novels, because of the story:price ratio. But Rucka makes really good thrillers. (And the art is striking.) And in this case, it feels like it was meant for TV - tonally, it feels similar to Jessica Jones.
