I think I need to read more on the archaeology, and perhaps Philostratos' Vita Sophistae, and certainly Aelius Aristides, before I have any hope of making progress with this inscription, the Lex Sacra from the Pergamene Asklepieion.
Hopefully old Aristides is actually in the library, hidden among the Loebs. (Vol. 1 apparently is, and if it's anything like they did with Julian, they will have listed Volume 1 and neglected the others.)
Since I'm working next week (for a whole four hours, but they're the most awkward four hours possible) I probably won't make much progress. Especially since I have an assignment for a palaeography seminar - yay, manuscripts, boo, work - as well.
In the interim, I should read more anthropology. Chris Gosden, Victor Turner, Clifford Geertz. I can do that between the cracks.
Yes, my life is so exciting. I don't know how I can stand it.
