The author appears never to have published anything else, and the book itself seems to have fallen down a black hole. But it's good. There are immortal emperors and lost memories and a nice young man who loves other men and such things.

It occurs to me to inquire whether Farah Mendlesohn's brand new lesbian Regency is on your radar. Ok, ok, I'm only on chapter 5 but it's just as excellent as I guessed it might be when I first heard about it. Quiet and lovely and very very historically rooted.
