Also, I find Burgess very variable, I've not read Dead Man in Deptford, but wanted to know have you read Earthly Powers and if so what you thought of it ?

Dead Man is the only Burgess novel I've ever read. Though I have Clockwork Orange out from the library at the moment. I'll add Earthly Powers to my ever-lengthening list. *g*
