Well, I'm back from Worldcon, with an overweight luggage (books! more books!), and an empty purse. Glasgow's a brilliant city, as far as I can tell, and I was impressed by the two bookshops I visited (apart from the con).

It was the first convention I've ever been to, and I was somewhat surprised to note that about half of the attendees were middle-aged and/or overweight (Unkind of me to notice, yes). Although I did meet some nice young men from Sweden, and one from Germany.

I had fun. It was great to meet authors in person, especially Karen Traviss, whose work I've admired since first picking up Star Wars: Republic Commando Hard Contact (I'm not a big Lucas fan, but Zahn's trilogy was my introduction to SF, and I've read most of the books since). Her wess'har books are possibly the best - at least the most thought-provoking - books I've ever read.

Read lots of new books and authors heretofore unknown to me - Charles Stross, SL Viehl, Kim Harrison. Done no new writing. Will quite possibly spend the next week flat on my back.
