Karate kicked my arse.

I can foresee myself getting very fit very quickly out of sheer self-defence, because that? Was one hell of a workout.

Though I must note that while the class put a lot more emphasis on stretching, flexibility, and fitness than my previous experience, the form and technique are much less precise - much less prioritised, it looks like, at least among the junior grades - than my previous instructor would have stood for.*

This from one class. But I will be going back.

So, since the first order of the year is to Not Die, I'm taking tomorrow off. (The way I feel now, I might be able to crawl out of bed in the morning, but I'm not entirely convinced I'll be able to manage the stairs.) I'll stay home and catch up on my Greek, and since the library is now open on Sundays, I'll head in over the weekend.

(I really like having that option. Alas, it is a pilot programme, and so may not last.)

Revised plan, 14-20 Jan:

Monday: gym
Tuesday: climb
Wednesday: none
Thursday: karate
Friday: gym/climb
Saturday: judo

Revised plan, 21 Jan onwards:

Monday: gym
Tuesday: climb
Wednesday: gym/none
Thursday: karate
Friday: gym/climb
Saturday: judo
Sunday: local karate.

Karate will be good for building my wind and my stamina. Climbing? Adrenaline and upper-body strength.

I could probably ditch the gym entirely and concentrate on the two of them, but I like the unthinkiness of just running on a treadmill, and weight work (even with the light weights that are all I can manage so far) makes me feel mighty.

So not ditching gym, then.

No writing today. Five lectures and karate instead.

*I may go back to training with him on Sundays, to get that technique back. Because the other brown belt there looked... slightly off, in his katas.

Gym is GOOD. We like the gym. It's important.

I'd love to climb...

Yuh - not sure where to do it here. Except the cliffs of Dover, mayhaps.

Ask at your gym. They might know where you could find a wall.

Otherwise, google is your friend. :)

My gym wouldn't know where to find a bubble in a jacuzzi. They're useless. Until it recently got bought out by LA Fitness, it was some kind of over-hyped social club where fat people sat in a sauna eating fuckin' oranges!

Do you have something against fat people and oranges? :P

Google. Ask around. :)

Then I need a climbing buddy! But yes, it's a great idea... there's a place in East Brighton, but apparently it disfigures your face if you use it: http://www.aultd.org/rockcourt.htm
