Hmm. I always say that if you put your lead character in dire trouble, build your characters well enough to be alive and to be likeable (hateable?), in that character give them reason and motive, to act as they do... and let them solve the problem. They'll grow and change... and somehow the book writes itself around them.
Thing is, I know the bloody viewpoint characters inside out (novel, attempt the third). Figuring out plot-stuff to do to them, and antagonists of convincing reality...
Well, I think I've got a handle on the plot stuff now. At least I should, after two 15,000-word false starts. (I wonder why it is it takes me 15,000 words to figure out I'm heading off at a tangent to the right direction?... Never mind). The last attempt counts as a nearly, but not quite right beginning.
I should know in two weeks whether I've got it right this time. I have lists! and outline!, so hopefully.
