So, climbing.
Not a terrible night, all told: I had some strength back, and some courage. Three routes sent, all of which I had done before, and three more routes improved upon. Although I'm very annoyed with the lack of posted grades: it's hard to tell if I'm improving, or what.
I also spent a little time on the bouldering section. They have one problem that's all jugs, a ladder, and I did some ten-second straight arm hangs and (attempted, at least) bent arm hangs. They're kind of hard.
Apparently there are bouldering problems out at Portrane. I might have to see if I can talk the parent into driving me there this weekend or next to check them out.
College work proceeds apace. A very slow resentful pace: I should dearly like to carve time out for writing without feeling a mountain of guilt descend on my shoulders for using limited brain power for what is, technically, a hobby.
Said hobby had two hours and ~1000 words worth of note-taking expended on it today, in a response to "Merlin" and various piddling bits of medievalistic fantasy. (I should have been doing Greek, really.) Ah, well. There is yet time.
There damn well better be.
I don't even read the papers, and passing the headlines on the newstand in the morning makes my stomach clench. The parent has made noises about me possibly approaching the banks to see if there are any useful affordable student types of loan left.
(Considering our cooker is halfway to b0rked, the washing-machine requires kicking and standing over to make it work, and the parent needs about five thousand quid worth of specialist work done on her teeth - not covered under basic free dental stuff here, since she is adamantly opposed to a plate and I don't really blame her - and oh, have I mentioned, we probably ought to get the cat vaccinated? I'm feeling a little, er. Not exactly whelmed by entropy, right now. At least the fridge appears reasonably functional, and my laptop only needs a little kicking now and then. Bright sides. I am looking for them.)
(My longterm plan is to defraud the government out of the cost of my postgraduate education - well, not defraud, exactly - and high-tail it to a country that does not screw up its economy in regular twenty year cycles. This does not make the shortterm plan look full of luxuries, but I guess a decade of reasonable security and prosperity and the occasional foreign holiday is something like nine years longer than ought to have been expected.)
So. Still not monarch of the universe. Better get cracking, then.

Date: 2009-01-10 06:19 pm (UTC)The one thing about cyclicly (sp?) is there is a chance of recovery sometime. Ours is looking really dodgy... And I still have a lot of fees to pay for two sets oof uni education.
I've never really been a big bouldering fan, but it can be fun. Of course it winter there now, and so other climbing possibilities are very limited, eh? What is the weather like end March/firt few days of April? (don't tell me. it always rains)

Date: 2009-01-10 06:39 pm (UTC)Portrane is tidal. So that appears to be problemmatic.
Yes. It always rains. Although one can get surprisingly good weather in April: sometimes the best weather of the year is April-May.
How're things with you? You are still considering a move away from S.A.?

Date: 2009-01-10 07:01 pm (UTC)Canada is bit on the bleak and cold for me... I like the water to STAY above 14 C (and the air temp not to get above 30 - or really much below daytime 10 at for any length of time in winter.). The adventure company is fun. Both my boys are a little short of divemaster, but done through advantced and nitrox, and have their surf lifesaving and first aid, and abseil instructors tickets. James is saving hard to do his skippers ticket for yatching during next holidays -he got offered a 50% bursary but it still adds up to 400 euros. They'll both be at Uni this year, which means dad is broke.
