Aug. 7th, 2010 11:33 pmHi. I've just gone insane.
Well. More insane.
There comes a point, before I go away in any iteration of travelling, in which packing and planning and double-checking becomes too much to handle. And I start to want to shout, I'm not going anywhere! I'm going to stay RIGHT HERE and never pack another THING!
In three days, I'll be gone. Gone away. And it won't matter how insane I am, I'll be crazy in another country. For a month. I find this slightly daunting.
More than slightly daunting.
And much as I want the red earth, the sky so blue and clear and the horizon like a knife separating earth and heaven, the fierce sun and the pressing heat and the sound of cicadas in shrubbery by evening; much as I want new cities and new sights, ancient history and voices raised in languages I don't yet speak -
Much as I want it, I'm also a little afraid. Change is always somewhat frightening. New things always have the potential to turn out horribly wrong. And lately courage isn't my strong suite.
But in three days, I'm off anyway.

Date: 2010-08-07 11:11 pm (UTC)Moving is like that too. I'm at that point RIGHT NOW. ::cough::
I want elves. Lots and lots of elves, armed with tape guns and an endless supply of boxes. Who do I contact to make this happen?
Here, have a piece of cake. People driven insane by packing deserve cake.
