Fewer aliens, less sex, more angst, and that looks entirely too much like the inside of my head for comfort.

And, because I am thinking of it, a little (revised) piece of John Donne:

any death diminishes me,
because I am involved in humanity.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls.
It tolls for thee.

You've gone and done it again, you know. Pointed out yet another writer I should spend money on. Now I must cudgel my poor brains into coughing up another name that you haven't heard of. Tell me, who haven't you heard of?

Drat.

Read any Melissa Scott? ::hopeful face::

Melissa who? ::googles::

Oh, is that the Melissa Scott you're talking about? *g*

Egads, that's an eye-strainingly bad webpage. I can barely read the text.

I don't think you need to spend cash on Johnny Donne, btw. Have a look here: http://www.poetry-online.org/donne-john-poetry.htm. Another eye-straining sight - they have pretty bad taste in text colour - but it's there.

[I never really liked the little bit of Donne I did in school. For Whom the Bell Tolls/No Man is an Island - with which I have taken liberties above :-) - is probably my favorite, but the period chauvism is irritating *g*, just a bit. Plus I think 'humanity' scans better in that line anyway :-)]

That's the one, and skip the website, go directly to her books. Lots of stand-alone books plus a series or two. "Pointsman" is based on her newer series, which is a sort-of medieval society plus magic.

Oh, and it wasn't Donne that I was going to spend money on, it was the other writer you referenced. Your link? Paperback Writer? I had no idea SL Viehl had anything other than Stardoc.

What's that phrase. Oh, *facepalm* right. Should have guessed. :-)
