I am virtuous. I have written 800 words of research paper within three hours.

(And spent the last twenty minutes clarifying a book order. This edition, not that edition. Makes difference! Really! sez I. Gah, sez I, and wanders off muttering darkly.)

The painful part starts tomorrow, of course. With the fiddly bits and the turning of [square brackets] into real accurate descriptions, rather than waffling about habitus and the grammar of godly perception.

Now I get to fumble my way through two different sorts of Greek (ancient and modern) and pretend that I don't want to go home and write fictions. Or sleep.

It's Courage and Once more unto the breach, I suppose...

Close up the walls with
those English dead
-
and pretend
it makes a difference.

I could do with more mightiness and fewer [square brackets]. I want this done and out of the way so I can go back to brooding on the unfairness of writing one's first chapter while still utterly ignorant! :)

(Also, watching more spy tv. I've grown to rather admire Nikita: the narrative chops and willingness to take emotional risks remind me a little of CM - before That-Which-Shall-Not-Be-Named was ever mentioned. Although it's a spy show, so it'll probably jump the shark very soon.)

Though I am not insensible of the compliment. :P

[brackets] can be fixed. That's what second drafts are for.

I missed Nikita, even with Nikki Lau tweeting about it. I should try to catch up one of these days!

I am just glad I live in the days of word-processing programmes. Trying to do this with no on-the-go editing capacity would cause many trees to die.

You definitely should give it a shot. The pilot isn't the best thing ever, but it gets more willing to take risks later - and my god. Women. Main character women. With agency. And amazing.

And the less pleasant aspects of espionage work for women are not glossed over or voyeuristically exploited. So far, at least. (I am awaiting the moment when my high expectations on this front are inevitably betrayed, as CM did two weeks ago.)

It is enough to make me weep the tears of gratitude.

Clarification to (brackets): I mean as CM betrayed my high expectations regarding non-voyeuristic treatment of sexual abuse survivors a couple of weeks ago, not CM's espionage work.

(Brain, kind of not parsing the sentences tonight.)

You relieve me immensely.

(Alas, poor CM. But we'll always have Paris. Or at any rate, The Big Game/Revelations and North Mammon. :P)

You are indeed virtuous! I stand in awe of you virtuosity.

That's me, a real virtuoso. :P

(And how weird is it that that word comes from the same root as 'virile'?)
