Tonight, thinking of Libya.

The world changes. Sometimes by inches, but it changes. bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm - For the protestors' sake, I hope that God really is both compassionate and merciful. Because what Gaddafi's been doing certainly isn't.

Local opinion seems to think that Gaddafi is on his way out, although the overthrow is going to continue to be bloody.

At least Wisconsin isn't bloody. ;-)

Wisconsin isn't bloody. But if the corporatocratist right succeeds in breaking the unions, it's not going to be pretty. Collective bargaining is just about the most necessary tool in any workers' rights situation.

Hopefully both Gaddafi and his son are going to retire from the struggle quickly. One of my mates has a boyfriend from Tripoli, an archaeologist there. I hope he's all right.

In Wisconsin, it seems the people do know how important collective bargaining is -- the police union leader retracted his support for the Governor, and the firefighters have marched into the Capitol building. Both of these groups were specifically exempted by the Governor, and yet they recognized the dangers.

As for Tripoli, I hope it ends sooner, with no more blood shed. I really hope Gaddafi is deposed quickly.
