Can't sleep. Clowns will eat me.
Also, good article on Elementary.
Books 2012: 193-194
193-4. Pierre Pevel, The Alchemist in the Shadows and The Dragon Arcana. Gollancz, 2010-2011. Translated from the French by Tom Clegg.
More swashbuckling magical 1600s France, now with extra draconic plot. The sequels to Pevel's The Cardinal's Blades are compelling and readable, brisk, with a fluid translation that keeps the Frenchness of their diction and a vivid descriptive style that had me imagining televisual adaptations. I personally did not find them as satisfying or as enjoyable as The Cardinal's Blades, but I can't deny Pevel's accomplishment - and I hope more of his work finds its way into English translation.
