Mmm, books. I have Throne of Jade and Academ's Fury in my hands right at this moment. See you later, Internets.

If I had second copies, I'd send you them.

And thanks. I did. :-)

Ah, promises, promises. Not to worry; all this waiting builds my character, of which I seem to have a deficit. I've been biding my time re-reading Katherine Kerr's Deverry series, which is always a good way to spend a few days.

Deverry? I think I have some of those in a box somewhere. It's been about six years since I read any of them: all I can remember of them is that the names all sounded vaguely Welsh and the plot had something to do with reincarnation.

Ah, more books yet to catalogue. I should have started keeping track years ago.

Welsh...and Gaulish. Remember that the Deverrians originally came from northern Gallia -- Vercingetorix was one of their historical heroes and they were fleeing the Rhwmanes. Lots of reincarnation of the soul, yes. The plots were about as simple and straightforward as a Celtic knot. For some reason, I love them.

But all this is by way of distracting me from my present predicament, namely lack of Naomi Novik's latest book. ::drums fingers on desk:: Well, I've got a day off tomorrow. :-)

Catalogue? What is this catalogue of which you speak? Who has time to organize books? ;-)

Well, since I have to go through all my boxes anyway, I decided that I should really keep track of all! these! books! Since I've no idea even how many I have - rough figure somewhere around two thousand, but, you know, somehow they keep multiplying.

It's going rather slowly, but since I'm waiting on more shelves...

Throne of Jade = shiny. But the worst thing about it? It has a preview of Black Powder War at the end of it.

Right now I'm waiting for Scott Lynch's first, myself. Did the rounds of the bookshops yesterday with no joy. I have to go back next week.

I have bookcases overflowing with books, and that's just in my house. I also have books at my parents' house. Many many books. I really must find that old t-shirt of mine, on which it explicates that "of course you have no room for books". It was from a bookstore I used to patronize, down in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Alas, that bookstore has gone out of business. Anyway, I should find this shirt and photograph it, and that can become my shiny new icon.

I'm waiting for Scott Lynch's book myself, all because of you.

Oh, and I'm actually getting rid of old books -- this is a state I would have never admitted or even dreamed of finding myself in, but I have too many books that I don't read or no longer like. My tastes have changed. All those Tanith Lee..Marion Zimmer Bradley...Elizabeth George (I'm DONE with her after she killed off a character)...and too many more to count.

Gone! Donated to the local branch of the library or sent to friends in need.

But I still have bookcases overflowing.

I'm waiting for Scott Lynch's book myself, all because of you. Because of me? Because of me? How come it's my fault? :-) Six years ago, when we moved house, I sold off a good lot of books. But - they breed! (278 catalogued. Perhaps somewhat over a tenth. I hope so, anyway.)

Yes, you. You happen to have him on your friends' list, so naturally I looked at what he had to say. And it was good. What's more, it naturally led to the discovery of his about-to-be published book. [insert recurring phrase, "Darn You, Hawkwing!!"] So, there you have it.

Books breed? That explains....much. Particularly the problem under the bed.

If I said I was sorry, I'd be lying. :-)

(And call me Liz)

Books breed. I'm nearly sure I've caught them at it.

I'd call you Liz, but Hawkwing scans so much better, at least with "Darn You ___!" ;-)

You've found baby books, then? They're born with just the pictures, and they grow words as they get bigger (or so it seems).
