What I did in 2015
Jan. 1st, 2016 02:58 amWell, that was a year.
I roll into 2016 feeling as though I've spent the past year more sick than well, which is... not exactly accurate, but the proportions have been creeping their way above 30:70. Three years of serious stress is, apparently, a great way to burn your immune system back like a dry heath at midsummer.
What did I do in 2015?
-- finished my thesis, passed my viva, had my corrections accepted: can officially refer to myself as "Dr."
-- gave a paper at a conference
-- said paper is now submitted for publication
-- applied for some government jobs, which have not outright rejected me from their selection process yet
-- wrote 30K of a not-a-novel, aka The Unbook: it's been fun to play with words again
-- started a Patreon, which seems to have attracted rather more support than I expected
-- continued writing Sleeps With Monsters for Tor.com
-- contributed several reviews and articles to Tor.com
-- contributed several reviews to Locus
-- contributed a review to SH
-- ended up on the Clarke Award jury
-- visited Foz in Aberdeen
-- visited London
-- completed a draft MS for a collection of reviews and articles
-- read upwards of 180 books
-- did not die.
I do not think I should think of myself as an underachiever, really.
