To Hephaistos
Sing praise of glorious-skilled Hephaistos, clear-voiced Muse!
He who alongside the gleaming-grey-blue-eyed Athena taught
Shining works to mortals on the dark earth, mortals who once
Used to dwell like beasts of prey in the mountain caves.
But now because of Hephaistos – famed in craft –
Having eagerly learned [such] works
They spend the span of an age
In their own houses, free from care.
Be gracious, Hephaistos: grant us valour and wealth.
