The amateur writer witters on
Aug. 29th, 2005 11:34 pmOkay. After a dry period (well, a reading period, really. Can't write while reading other people's really good prose/story) I'm back writing. But I've lost track of wordcount. There was Wednesday with 900 words on Dreamdark, and now today, with a nearly unprecedented 2096 (!!!!) words on Dreamdark. That brings me up to 16,837 words (I estimate this to be one tenth of the total needed words). Pilots weighs in on 267 words today, which is good. I am now at 5,893 words for that, which, with luck, is 5% of total.
I have worked out that if I write 1,500 wpd for 28 days I will have 42,000 words by the end of it, whereas if I write 2,000 wpd for the same period I will have 56,000 words.
I do not believe I can manage either. But I will. I will try.
Writerism of the day: Beautiful is Good, FINISHED is Better *g*
I have to keep reminding myself. I'm only nineteen. I have at least ten years before I need to start beating myself up about getting published (and ten years after that before I start to fall out of the writerly average). With twenty years ahead of me, I can afford to not be impatient. Write a book a year, self: that's only between 274 and 822 words a day (in ten years, between 1 and 3 million words).
Anyway, Alusind has decided it likes my hindbrain better than my conscious mind, and is staying down the back, thank you very much. Sigh. And it's such a shiny idea, too. Dead things. Magic. Tyranny. Shiny city with big big class differences. Magic. Dead things. Swords. Mist. Bridges. Ugly People and Beautiful People. Dead things. *g*
To replace it, at least, I have a short story that wants to be written. An artist. A priesthood. A god with many names, one of which seems to be missing. Sort of locked-room mystery with an intangible theft. Am I making sense? Probably not. In that case, I'd better go write it, then.
