Oct. 22nd, 2008 09:15 pmThe glamour: Study fail. (I almost, but not quite, regret going to the march. It was an interesting experience, and fun.)
The fun:
Climbing:
My fingers were a little raw tonight. But! Incredible success! I sent the red 6a, the one sort-of-on the roof, my very first 6a. Triumph!
Okay, so I did a bit of dogging and a bit of flailing, but that was still a decent showing.
On the other hand, I seem to have forgotten how to do the grey 5+ with any kind of grace. I got up it, but I was damn messy. And flaily. Attempted white 6a#2, and failed of it at the same place I always do. Did a bit of traversing, and met interesting new people. And interesting people-I-already-know, which is always pretty cool.
A week out of climbing, however, does not help my calluses stay hard. I have blistered fingers now, oh yes I do, and I disapprove.
I'm learning how to eat to keep things together. If I have porridge in the mornings and get soup with extra bread at lunch (about the only food from the cafeteria worth eating) I only need to top off with some chocolate or a biscuit cake just before climbing, which means I can last long enough to eat a proper meal at home at half eight or half nine at night.
It's been an interesting couple of days' experimentation. Because the burgers and salad in college, this year? Now officially suck. This removes the last element of choice from lunchtime. The pizza is disgusting. The pasta is edible, but just barely. And apart from that your choice is down to Fried Stuff, Something inna Roll, random (over)spiced vegetarian slop, and random (over)spiced slop with unidentifiable meat in.
(I could go upstairs to the Dining Hall, where they have Roast Stuff, but that last time I ate in the Dining Hall? My boiled new potatoes, they had the blight. And when black runny stuff seeps out of your potato when you cut it open, it kind of puts you off going back.)
(I understand the logic behind providing things like curries, meatballs, (alleged) stroganoffs - but does it always have to look so disgustingly like... well, yellowish brown or brownish red lumpy slop? Seriously. The curry yesterday looked like diarrhoea.)
