Cats and their injuries
Nov. 24th, 2013 05:36 pmVisi, the younger, more adventurous cat, has been wounded in action:

Today's the first day I've been able to get a proper good look at it. It's either a bite from something that has rat-like, rather than cat-like, teeth, or the remains of an abscess. I'm voting abscess, since the first bleeding we noticed wasn't fast and bright red, but copious, dark-purplish-red, came out in a gush when we pressed on it while bathing it, and seemed to be diluted with lymph.

We can't get him to the vet, because money, and also because this household presently lacks anyone permitted to drive. But we've been bathing him with Dettol and warm water - I snipped away the fur around the wound yesterday to a)get rid of matted nastiness and b)be able to see it better - and applying Sudacrem. I'm not sure if it needs stitches or other treatment, but at least he doesn't seem to be scratching at it much, and his personality, aside from being a bit more inclined to sit on my feet, is much the same.

I'm begging you down on bended knees
Oct. 20th, 2010 08:53 pmI've been sat working at the kitchen table since I got up today. Vladimir, the household's feline overlord, normally takes his ease in the living room.
But since I've been here, he's been sitting in the chair beside me. Occasionally on top of me, and - more regularly for him, since he's a windowledge sort of cat - sitting on the windowsill watching me.
The constant purring is equal parts reassuring and disturbing.
