hawkwing_lb: (Criminal Minds JJ what you had to do)
I'm thinking a lot about goals and goal-setting lately: realistic and unrealistic, and the difference between.

I've a bad habit of trying to do too much too quickly, which has resulted - and does result - in some somewhat unpleasant experiences. So instead of giving myself goals with deadlines, I'm going to decide upon a list of things to do, and then aim to do more than 50% of them.

Boring if you're not me )

The aim is to revisit this post on October 1st, and see how much I can achieve in two months. Achieving half will be quite satisfactory, but it'll be interesting to see if I can do more than that without undue pressure.

Anyway. The experiment commences tomorrow.

My dental appointment went painlessly. I am not in need of fillings or tooth removal, contrary to what the last dentist I attended (two years ago) told me. And minimal cleaning necessary.

Also, this dentist is a)polite, b)handsome, and c)accepts medical cards. Him, I think I'll keep.

I've been lying around eating crap and watching DVDs all week. It appears to be improving my mental well-being. Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, I might hazard a run.

I've come to half a conclusion about what I'm going to do for the next three weeks. I'm going to take myself into college early - possibly the 0700 train - use the gym for a couple of hours, bring my Greek and Latin grammar into the library, work on that for a couple of hours, break for lunch, and either write or read history until evening, when there will be fruit and bread and maybe climbing before I come home.

Yeah, this is pretty much going to have me out of the house for fourteen-hour days, but that's probably better than hanging around here to marinate in mine own angst. And I can take the weekends off, and look for work, as I originally planned, when I come back from the two-week holiday with the parent.

The new plan involves not worrying: not about studying, not about money, not about the anticipation of things lost, and not about writing. I'm going to involve myself in getting half a background on the Roman period, the Pauline writings, and Greco-Roman Egypt.
